Globalization has significantly reshaped the landscape of higher education. In the past, students competed for a limited number of opportunities. Now, students can select from a vast array of educational modes and research universities on a global scale, and as a result, the mobility of students has tremendously increased over the past few decades. However, opportunities for students could mean challenges for universities/colleges at the same time. As students have more choices, competition between universities to attract students is growing. How can universities keep good local students and attract international talent at the same time?
Internationalization of higher education is often seen as one of solutions to the aforementioned challenges. This roundtable would like to talk about how National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taiwan has been cultivating an internationalized learning environment, and what obstacles and prospects they have confronted with. Chao-Chi Lin, the director of the International Doctoral Program in Asia-Pacific Studies (IDAS), will provide an overview of how NCCU’s College of Social Sciences has developed three English-taught international programs, and introduce three programs with a focus on IDAS’s courses & requirements, funding opportunities, research projects, and placement history. Aswin Lin, the current IDAS student, will share his experience of studying at NCCU.
